![]() ![]() While the arcade is a fun tutorial of sorts, the main focus of this game is the multiplayer. Some favor high stance, while others are insistent on going for your knees. You’ll learn what works and what doesn’t while playing against the computer, as the characters more or less showcase the different things you can do with the weapons as you come across them. You are also able to throw your weapon, as well as go hand-to-hand or perform a dive kick. Attacks are dependent on how you move directionally, so you can be at a low, mid, or high stance. ![]() There is no tutorial, but the control scheme is hardly difficult. For those that have never played Nidhogg before, the arcade mode is a great place to learn how everything works. My first time through the game I beat it in 21 minutes, and there’s a trophy for beating it in 20, which is more than doable once you understand the fundamentals. This is almost impossible in the likes of the arcade mode, as the game has certain styles to learn as you play. The game has the ability to run indefinitely without a time limit, although it’s there for those that would rather not have the game end in a stalemate. The game offers a few modes, including a single-player arcade, online, local versus (2 players), and local tournaments (3-8). The music is also quite varied between the stages, creating a fun sense of ambiance. The game features extravagant backgrounds as you pierce your way through each level, running and jumping to safety. I highly recommend checking out his Tumblr that goes into the design of the game with Plasticine, as many games don’t make use of this animation method anymore. The latter is quite a large jump from the original, which served its purpose well, but you can’t help but love the Sega feel that is brought about in 2 thanks to Toby Dixon. The largest differences are the amount of weapons available, and the graphics. If you’ve played Nidhogg, you can pretty much expect the same experience from Nidhogg 2. It’s here that the winner is crowned with fame after being eaten by the Níðhöggr. The victor picks up his sword as he continues on and no sooner has to deflect a bolt that’s quickly shot from a bow, which inadvertently pierces the archer’s heart. The sword is thrown in kind and stuck through the combatants head. As the champion runs, the defeated reappears with a dagger that he lobs, but misses. One stabs low, the other high, and one becomes the victor as the other is disemboweled. One stabs low, the other Two fighters lock eyes and charge at each other, both wielding their swords with the intent of murdering the other. ![]() If you already got the first Nidhogg, pretend this one doesnt exist. Two fighters lock eyes and charge at each other, both wielding their swords with the intent of murdering the other. Otherwise I recomment the first Nidhogg instead. If you still want to play a game that feels like it has constant input delay you can go for it I guess. It has unique style, the soundtrack is great, way more and interesting stages, different weapons (the bow is ♥♥♥♥ though) and even different stances depeding on the weapon you are holding.īut all that doesnt help if the core gameplay doesnt work properly. Its a shame because the first Nidhogg is great (buy that instead) and this one does actually have some good features. Did this to a friend two times in a row and there was nothing he could do except ragequit afterwards. Even worse is that a player can throw a weapon and if timed correctly, the winning player can throw the weapon in such a way that the other player spawns right into the flying weapon and dies instantly. Since it happens to all players I guess its kinda "fair". Sometimes resulting in players spawning right above a pit or directly next to it so that you cant do anything about it and die instantly again. So for every ledge you want to go down, you have to jump down (because for some reason then you dont stumble even if its a higher drop then). When you go down a ledge, the character always stumbles which means that you cannot perform any actions. Movement in this game feels like when you have these dreams in which you are running but dont actually move forward. The game feels sluggish, is clunky to play and has some weird and questionable design decisions. We bought this game in a group to play together but at the end everyone was just pissed. I really dislike giving a thumb down for games, but this game is one you should not buy except you want a frustrating experience. ![]()
